Zoom LiveTrak L-20

This mixer is a bit on the pricy side and it may take a moment to figure out how it works with all it's qwerks, but you will never need another mixer in your life! Because this Zoom LiveTrak L-20 does EVERYTHING.

In my band we are a 3 piece. Vocals/guitar, bass and drums. And we bought this to record band rehearsals and maybe do some studio recordings. But since this also works as a normal analog mixer we hooked up 3 different wedge monitors through the Monitor Out outputs and made individual mixes for each of us (You can do it with in-ears too ofc). And with the save function we can save presets so we never have to dial anything in ever again. Dial your mix in once, save it and never touch it again!

You can record using an SD card in the mixer itself or connecting it to your computer and use as an Audio Interface like a Focusrite Scarlett to your DAW. When recording on the SD card you will get a master mix and all individual tracks that you can mix later at home.

The sound is good with a bunch of headroom on the preamps and no dealbreaker clipping issues that we have experienced so far. If anything is holding us back it's our speakers haha! I have also out of curiosity tried plugging my guitar and multi fx pedal straight to the mixer and playing that way, works great. But I realized a real amp is preferable depending on which PA/monitor wedge speakers you have.

The one and only con I can think of is that the build quality is not super robust, it's plastic so don't manhandle it too much. But it will for sure survive sitting in our rehearsal space and the occasional trip outside! Just be conscious that it's not unbreakable and you're fine.

All in all 4/5, the only reason it's not a 5/5 is because of the build quality.

Jag använder min L-20 som livemixer och är inte besviken. + är att kunna spela in showen direkt på konsolen, eller koppla den till dator och spela in varje kanal för sig. Grymt bra att kunna spara olika scener och ha t.ex 4 olika band som man kan soundchecka för att sedan återkomma till respektive bands sparade scen! Enda negativa är att det inte är motoriserade faders. en ledlampa lyser upp där du lämna fadern vid senaste tillfället, och för att ändra volym så behöver du först åka med fadern upp till ledlampan för att "aktivera" den igen. Lite krångligt.

Allt som allt en riktigt bra mixer för både live och inspelning!

I bought this to use in a rehearsal room with a band. We are a four piece but use drums, 2 guitars, bass, 3 synths (stereo),laptop and 3 vocals so needed lots of inputs.
Previously had a Yamaha mixer and Zoom R16 recorder but this allows us to play live and/or record without continuously plugging in and out inputs into the mixer and recorder. Recording onto SD card is easy.
Sound quality is great, loads of headroom on preamps, channel tweaking is easy. Greatest of all though is the ability to have 6 individual headphone/monitor mixes.

Haven't tried mixing using it hooked up to my DAW yet - will report back.

Con: Sure, it's a bit plasticy and the knobs aren't pro quality but sitting in a bandroom with the occasional trip into the outside world it is easily robust enough to last a long time.

1 Year update: I can confirm this product is great. We've used it to produce high quality band demos. Instead of recording all the tracks onto SD card and then importing into a DAW (which is very easily done) we now have it connected directly to a laptop and record live into the DAW. We have a template for our band and all the inputs set up in the DAW so it's really quick and easy to record rehearsals or demos.

Highly recommended, great value.
