Honestly a great little headless guitar, but you’ll definitely need to tweak it first
Alexix 04.07.2026
I recently picked up the left-handed Hils Next HN3 in Ivory, and after spending some time with it, I’ve got some mixed but mostly really positive thoughts.
Right out of the box, the first thing that blew me away was just how tiny and surprisingly light this thing is. Even though it has a full-scale neck, the body is so compact that it actually feels like playing a 3/4 size instrument. Between the weightless feel and the headless design, the ergonomics are absolutely spot on. It balances perfectly whether you're sitting or standing, making it basically the ultimate portable guitar. Plus, I was really impressed by the stock pickups—they honestly sound great.
That said, the out-of-the-box experience was pretty rough. If you buy one, just be ready to give it a proper setup before you can really enjoy it. Mine arrived with the string action sitting way too high. To make matters worse, the nut slots were also cut too high, which made it impossible to get the action set right without addressing that issue first.
Basically, it just needs a little extra work at the start. If you don't mind spending some effort adjusting the bridge, doing a bit of nut filing, and getting it properly dialed in—or just taking it to a local tech—it transforms into an absolute blast to play. It has great bones and tons of potential, you just have to unlock it first. Great gig bag also.
