I haven’t been playing ukuleles for long but am thoroughly enjoying the experience (I’m a fiddler by nature). Our ukulele session did not have any bass sound so I took it upon myself to have a go with a cheap secondhand bass uke. Then I saw the spectacular Ortega hydra.
The Ortega hydra gives the option of bass EADG or high gCEA uke attached with one big back-domed sound box which improves the acoustic sound of the high uke though it is not enough to give the bass enough voice in a session. Never fear! The built-in electrics (pardon the technical term) are easy to plug into an amplifier. There’s a handy little switch beside the bridge that you can switch from descant to bass or both. I love the lizard decoration on both fingerboards.
I would have preferred a low G soprano ukulele - sorry, purists - and they may make them but I am very satisfied with the instrument, sometimes changing from high to low and back again in one song. It comes in a soft bag
