Literary stunned!
I just received the guitar today. Usually I dread the first day with a new guitar since they always seem to come with a somewhat bad setup, even higher quality brands these days. This guitar was setup perfectly out of the box! I just had to tune it up. The nut is cut perfectly and the frets came polished. The action is about where I want it to be, not too low and definitely not too high. I haven't checked the intonation with a tuner yet, but it sounds spot on.
The aging is top notch for a poly finish. The back of the neck feels like it has been cared of and been played for decades already. Not sure how Harley Benton managed to get such a great feel! However, I wish the horns where reliced a bit. It looks a bit out of place when the rest of the guitar is aged wonderfully.
Oh, and the sound! These Isola pickups are excellent! They don't sound cheap of muffled at all! I haven't noticed any buzz or hum from high gain either which I was most afraid of when ordering the guitar. I've heard worse pickups on guitars costing 10 times more than this one. Let's just say I won't be replacing them. After just a few hours of playing it's creeping up to be my favorite guitar!
The downsides then. Not sure what really to mention. The frets ends felt a bit sharp out of the box, but I just had to play a couple of hours for them to feel fine. I'm sure they will sprout out a bit over time, but that's an easy fix. Also the pickups a single coil obviously. The output isn't as high as most humbuckers, but again it's easily remedied by cranking up the distortion on the amp.
To save the best for last, sinced it's aged you don't have to feel too careful with it! It doesn't matter if it gets a ding somewhere. It just adds to the whole look.
I'm very satisfied with the purchase if I didn't make that clear already. I would recommend this guitar for anyone. It's my first T-style guitar and I actually think it will be my last, but in a good way. I don't think there can exist a better T-style guitar out there to replace this one.
