This mouthpiece is a brilliant combination of something that gives great sound and is easy to play. Response is good and it is easy to control and shape the sound throughout the entire register. It enables you to produce a smooth, fluffy, old school sound as well as a brighter, funkier, harsher sound when pushed. It is also very free blowing and interestingly enough I actually found the 7 more free blowing than the 6 when I tried them side by side.
The build quality is very good; a perfectly flat table, thin side rails and a sharp tip. I would say that the chamber is just slightly larger than the bore and the baffle is a nicely shaped rollover baffle.
My previous mouthpiece was a Vandoren V16 Metal Medium Chamber 8, which in my opinion is a great mouthpiece. However, I was looking to change my setup a bit to find a mouthpiece that was more diverse and easier to play. The Select Jazz 7 was just what I was looking for, elevating both my sound quality and confidence level while playing.
I can highly recommend this mouthpiece, especially considering the most favorable price.
