Yamaha YRT-304 B II Tenor Recorder

I’m a beginner recorder player, but let me put it this way: the Yamaha YRT-304B II truly rewards you when your breath control is right and everything falls into place. When it does, it produces a warm, dark, and beautifully focused tone that is incredibly satisfying.

At the same time, it is an honest instrument. If your airflow or fingering is sloppy, you will hear it immediately, which makes it a very good instrument to learn on. Its size and weight can become tiring during longer playing sessions, especially for the right hand, but once you find a relaxed playing position, it is wonderful to play.

I also think it really shines when my partner or one of our children plays a soprano recorder alongside me. The tenor’s deep, warm sound complements the soprano’s brighter tone beautifully and gives the music a fuller foundation.

For me, it has become more than simply a larger recorder. It provides clear feedback, encourages better technique, and makes every truly successful note feel like a small reward.

I am verry happy with this one and would absolutely recommend it.

In spite of its plastic soul, this tenor is better than most industrial wooden tenor recorders. The tuning is really good and the registers are balanced (high register includes c# with no need to top the bell).
Some improvement can be done (carefully) to drastically improve its flexibility: finger-holes edges (usually sharp out of factory) should be slightly rounded with sandpaper and (a more delicate operation) the windway entrance (the place one blows air in) should be "chamfered" - a 30 to 45 º downside ramp has to be cut off. For best results ask a recorder maker to "update" your tenor.
The obvious con is the volume but, let's face it, recorders are not meant to compete in loudness least you use some sort of amplification, why not?
A great choice for a first tenor or for an instrument to play for hours on end without tiring it out as is customary with wooden instruments.
