As a solo performer (Guitar, vocals, footdrums) i bought the EGO mini to tighten up and add sustain to my tone. It did that very well.
I only have experience of a very cheap compressor before and never really heard the effect of that pedal. The EGO bites through and really adds alot. Brings your tone to life I would say.
I use compression as an 'always on' effect again to add clarity to my guitar tone. Having not tried the full sized EGO so I can not compare but the mini has the same functions. The knobs are close together but for me no problem as It is always on so I never really 'tweak it'
The small size means there is nothing not to like. I can not say if cheaper compressors are better or worse but I was happy to pay the price of a wampler. I have Euphoria overdrive and Pinnacle Distortion also. Both work amazing well with the EGO.

Very good. Not excellent but very good
Jarek.G 26.04.2020
Very good. Almost as bigger brother, almost. First of all Wampler means premium quality and no doubt it is. Comparing to bigger brother (I have both) I noticed slightly higher level of floor noise but it is still premium quality - comparing it with Dyna Comp it's differend league. The only I could complain is tone toggle swith. 2-positions is not enough and sometime I feel it too dark and sometimes too bright. Perfect would be 3-pos switch.

HiFi Compression in a Mini Format
kineskistapici 06.03.2026
The Wampler Mini Ego is a condensed version of one of the industry's most respected OTA-style compressor pedals. It is designed for players who require precise dynamic control but have limited space on their pedalboard. Despite its small size, it retains the core circuitry of its larger sibling, focusing on transparency and professional-grade signal processing.

The defining feature of this pedal is the Blend knob, which allows for parallel compression. This means you can mix your uncompressed dry signal with the compressed signal, preserving the natural "snap" of your pick attack while still benefiting from increased sustain.

To save space, Wampler replaced the continuous Attack and Tone knobs found on the full-sized version with two-way toggle switches.

Attack Switch: Offers a choice between a fast attack (clamping down quickly on transients) and a slow attack (letting more of the initial note through).

Tone Switch: Provides a "Bright" setting to add presence or a "Dark" setting to smooth out high frequencies.

The pedal operates on standard 9V DC but can be run at 18V for increased internal headroom, which is useful if you use high-output pickups. While the switches are less flexible than the original's knobs, they simplify the setup process for players who prefer a set and forget approach.

The Wampler Mini Ego is an ideal solution for balancing signal levels without sacrificing the character of your instrument. It excels as an always on utility to even out performances or as a dedicated effect for increased sustain during lead sections. While it carries a premium price for a mini-pedal, the inclusion of the blend control and high-quality shielding makes it a reliable choice for professional environments.
