I have tried a bunch of modellers, most higher priced than this Valeton unit. Whatever modeller you choose will have a bunch of annoying quirks and ways of doing things that doesn't work with your setup/sound. With the Valeton the only big quirk are the fixed blocks. It's a huge letdown, but on the other hand you can always have several patches to work around the fixed blocks. This works surprisingly well with the assignable buttons.
With the issues out of the way the sound out of this unit is incredible! The IR/Cabs are somewhat lacking, but there are a bunch of sweet amplifiers and effects. I have fallen in love with the P-Wah in the unit. Never heard such a good EQ on a Wah-pedal before!
What I was most worried about were the pitch effects such as whammy and drop tune. Just as long as you don't plan to use a wah-pedal in the same patch it works wonderfully with the "hammy" effect. There is also a regular pitch-shifter which takes up the compression-block, but sadly it is close to unusable with its high latency.
The PC application works fine. Nothing special, but it's a lot easier than doing changes on the unit.
Lastly, the device is built like a tank! Also surprisingly easy to operate even without a computer if needed. It's also possible to set an output without a cab. Great if you use it both at home and for live/rehearsal.
