Good for some cases, but has crucial drawbacks
Folk accordionist 11.05.2026
Starting with the sound: it has generally good sound for the price if your instrument does not have much bass, excellent bang for the buck value.
I use it to amplify the bass end of an diatonic accordion which goes down to around 50 Hz (Bb lowest), where it seem to lack some depth in the lowest register. If your instrument has mid or treble only, this should not be a problem.

The build quality is generally excellent, mainly machined aluminium with a premium quality feeling over most parts. However, there are 3 major design flaws as I see it.
1: Size. the head looks similar sized to other similar microphones (Ovid cc100, dpa 4099, Neumann mcm 114) on the photos but is much bigger and heavier in reality. This makes it harder to use with smaller instruments such as violins and can look a bit bizarre. For larger instruments it should be less of a problem.
2: Mechanical isolation. many of the clips has only a thin rubber layer between the clip and the instrument, and only metal between the clip and the gooseneck. The head seem to be improperly isolated with soft rubber to the gooseneck, meaning a lot of deep mechanical noise, buffs and so on will be transferred to the mic and signal if you play something where you don’t want to apply a low cut to the signal.
3: windshield. The foam around the head is stiffer and with larger ”bubbles” than other comparable choices such as Ovid cc100. This makes slightest wind blow directly into the membrane and cause major wind noise. I can’t see it being used outdoors except for if there is absolutely no wind. My instrument must ”breath” with the below, causing similar wind noise. I don’t think wind instruments with a bell (such as saxophone or trumpet) should be a problem though, but I haven’t tested. Putting it in the wind stream of a flutist would obviously not work though.

Summary: good quality but with some major build issues. If your instrument and playing conditions are not affected by them, it should provide very good bang for the buck. If there is slightest concern, I would go for something else. The predecessor CC100 is still an excellent competitor.

Still seeingif it fits my purposes
Kikodasneves 14.12.2024
Bought this to amplify my electric archtop guitar in addition to the electric pickup sound. The microphone sounds great recorded, not like a really good large diaphragm microphone, but still very good and serviceable. However, when I try to plug into my acoustic amp, I get really intense high frequency feedback at really LOW volumes. So I’m not sure if I will be able to use it live, I have to try it in a gig situation. I’d say probably not because the volume I can get out of it before feedback is pretty much just a bit louder than the unplugged guitar.

Good mic for price but physically bigger than expected
DaveScot 17.05.2023
I bought this mic as a better alternative to the Ovid series which I also have. (The Ovid is OK and sounds good on most instruments but the quality is lacking - I already broke one and I worry about the thin cable etc.) This mic is noticeably higher quality in the build with a proper replaceable balanced cable (Thoman sell the cable separately) using standard connectors and the mounting hardware is all metal and feels much more robust. From the frequency plot it also seems to have a wider response especially down into lower frequencies. However you should be aware that the physical size of the mic capsule is MUCH larger than the Ovid capsule. Almost twice the length for example. So it's fine on some instruments but looks kind of silly on a violin or flute. The reason it's larger is that the electronics are mounted with the capsule not in the XLR adapter. This is good as it means the signal going down the cable is both higher gain and also balanced to avoid interference, but it's bad because it makes the mic physically much larger. So be aware - if you value quality and robustness buy this mic, if you value discreteness and size, buy the Ovid RC.

Suitable for different instruments, really nice for my flute!
Jacosalvat 23.07.2022
I've always used Dynamic Mics for the amplification of my flute, but I wanted something more flexible. It has definetely a nice quality, and with some more EQ Work even from the Mixer, or even better If you put some good Pre-Amp, this little mic from T.Bone will do de trick flawlessly.
