I purchased the Tama HTS7BC Drum Throne Top as a replacement for the worn-out seat on my existing drum throne, which has a Pearl Roadster Heavy Duty four-legged base. Since I had been experiencing lower back stiffness after rehearsals with my previous seat, I decided to prioritise comfort, ergonomics and overall quality.
After more than a year of regular use, I can confidently say that this was an excellent investment.
The biggest improvement has been the seating comfort. With my previous seat, my lower back would often feel stiff after rehearsals. Since switching to the Tama Ergo-Rider seat, I haven't experienced that problem once. For me, this alone makes the upgrade worthwhile.
I'm approximately 190 cm tall and weigh over 100 kg, so having a stable, supportive and comfortable drum throne is particularly important. The Ergo-Rider design suits my playing style extremely well. It provides a secure and comfortable seating position while allowing plenty of freedom of movement for my legs and feet. The seat feels very stable, even during more energetic playing.
I deliberately chose the cloth-covered version rather than a vinyl or leather-style surface, as I find those materials tend to make me sweat more during longer playing sessions. The fabric upholstery is much more comfortable in that respect.
The overall build quality has also been excellent. After more than a year of use, I have no complaints about its durability or construction.
The only potential downside is that the fabric upholstery would probably be more difficult to clean if something were accidentally spilled on it compared to a smooth vinyl surface. However, I take good care of my equipment, and this has not been an issue for me.
Overall, I highly recommend the Tama 1st Chair series, particularly to taller and heavier drummers who need reliable support, stability and long-term comfort.
If you're looking for a high-quality drum throne seat that combines excellent ergonomics, solid construction and outstanding comfort, the HTS7BC is definitely worth considering. I would happily choose it again.
