Schoeps Stereo-Set MK 2H

I play the piano and the pipe organ, and I wanted a pair of good mics for capturing the atmospheric sound of both instruments (but primarily the pipe organ). After some research, I decided to buy this Schoeps MK2H set.

The Schoeps MK2H have a slight HF rise, which make them more ideal for stage recording, i.e. recording with a distance from the source. After some recording sessions with these, this is what I've found:

Pros:

+ The recorded sound is warm and vivid, and the omni mics capture the bass sound of the organ nicely.
+ To my pleasant surprise, they also capture the sound of a grand piano excellently. Placing them slightly outside the soundboard gives a rich yet open sound. You can of course experiement with the placement depending on your taste, context etc.

Cons:

- My only real complaint are the clamps. The clamps could have been better designed. You need to, more or less, brute force the mic into the clamp, which feels very dangerous, especially for such a valuable mic.


These mics will probably be my companions for many years to come. Gorgeous sound!

Das Stereo-Set MK2h der Firma SCHOEPS ist für Tonaufnahmen von Chören, Ensembles oder Orchestern vorgesehen, kann aber auch beim Abnehmen von kleinen Bands zum Einsatz kommen, die unplugged musizieren. Dieses "Kugel-Pärchen" mit der Höhenanhebung gehört preislich zur Königsklasse, deshalb überlegt man sich gut, ob eine derartige Investition tatsächlich auch lohnenswert ist. Die Antwort ist eindeutig: JA, ohne Einschränkung! Die MK2h sind in jeglicher Hinsicht ein Spitzenprodukt - klarer, neutraler, differenzierter Sound auch bei wechselnder Dynamik sowie in Extrembereichen. Geringes, für menschliche Ohren praktisch kaum wahrnehmbares Eigenrauschen sowie hervorragende Verarbeitung beim hochwertigen und trotzdem robusten Material. Ich arbeite mit dem Set seit Jahren und setzte das Pärchen hauptsächlich in der AB-Stereofonie ein. Die Ergebnisse hinsichtlich des Sounds bei den Aufnahmen lassen für mich keine Wünsche offen. 5 von 5 Sternen!
