I owned a Kemper Powerhead a few years ago and I really liked it except the interface that was crap at the time if you compared to Axe-FX. When I saw this came I was like "hmmm maybe this can replace my old kemper when we start play with the band again".
I bought this device figuring that it would be a great deal since it is so small and also good looking, but that isn't all.
Out of the box the presets and sound is great in my opinion but it's not what I wanted. When trying to download several presets from other users, especially with an overdrive or tubescreamer, it went both ways. Some were pretty close to what I wanted but when I wanted to change gain/mid/treb the sound weren't that good anymore. As soon as you increased the gain the sound went very digital and did not sound that good.
I know that this is for easy use or for someone who wants to capture different amps and so, but, I thought that it would also be an alternative for the people that just want to play straight away and download cool presets.
The thing is, the interface in my opinion is" messy", in other words, not that easy to navigate in with the phone, I would rather had to choose between using my phone or doing it on my PC. As I also saw a vid on utube, when you rev up the gain/mid/treb the sound isn't that good anymore. I comparision between this and Kemper Profiler player, the stay almost excatly the same when you change different parameters on the device.
In my opinion, if you already have a QC or a lot of amps that you want to capture this is the product for you. Easy to use for that and easy to carry. As me, I have a lot of Neural DSP plugins that I can capture from this when I record things and want to get the same sound when we rehearse with the band, but I think I'll never use that anyway.
If you just want something to play on and record with this is a great product for you.
If you want more and what to have all in one, think again. Buy a Helix, Kemper, Axe FX or a QC.
