It works , i ve tried it with various amps. This works well with Mesa valve amp only. Simply, you need to buy mesa amp in order to get its sound.
It s preamp tube, quite round tones, bright more then I like, i got the feelingthe sound is flat across whole range of tonality & volume. Simply sounds the same, no matter when its loud, quiet, low, deep.
good as orinal part for replacement, Tung Sol has 20x bigger personality.;)

Good middle ground between budget and expensive

These Mesa Boogies 12 AX7 valves represent a good middle ground between the cheaper budget end of the pre amp valve market, and the more expensive end.

The very cheapest pre amp valves can have issues with their consistency and reliability, and are best avoided. At the opposite end, you can pay huge sums for these valves. However, I would challenge anyone to truly hear the difference between the Mesa Boogies and the really high end units. Remember, there will always be people that will pay ridiculous money for what they think are the best - and the manufacturers know this set prices accordingly.

Be sensible and buy these - not unreliable and cheap, but not over-priced and with the reassurance that the Mesa Boogie brand brings.

its very hard to tell difference between the different brands of tubes mostly because they are all made in three factories around the world - Slovakia ,Russia and China . its the selection of those that show better values while being measured thats critical . These Mesa Boogie pre amp tubes do have much more defined mid range and they are brighter as compare to the other ones I tried
