Not modern metal, not vintage Marshallm mot Fender "chime".
As a 80s or 90s hard rock amp, it gets the job done very nicely, and the clean sound is very nice.
But for me, the overdrive sound is a bit to fizzy, and I have not been able to get it to sound more "grainy" as an Marahslly sound from the early 80s or before.
For more modern sounds, this will do just fine, and to get anything better, you´ll have to pitch in a lot more money.
I tried a few different pre-amp tubes, and one other set of power tubes, but they made very little difference.
I changed the speaker to a Celestion V-typ, a Jensen C12Q nand a Celstion Greenback but returned to the standard seventy/80 as the others sounded a bit dull and not so bright (well the Greenback sounded great in a seperate 1x12 with single coils, but with humbuckers it was a bit dull also).
So, I would say that this is a very good amp with single coil pick ups, and ok to good with humbuckers depending of what your after.
