Harley Benton PA-100 Power Attenuator

My Matchless Little Monster got a whole new life after putting this unit between output and speaker. It was extremely bright before and now got that perfectly creamy and classy tube-sound, still almost as bright as before but some ice-picky frequencies were gone. Also a new gamut of sounds were available since I could adjust master volume (before I could only have it on 0-1 because of the loudness of this amp). Also Master volume didn't jump from almost silent to very loud but got a very usable range. However I could think if you already have a quite mellow amp then this unit will make it further damped so I recommend it only to amps that are fairly bright. Another plus is that if your amp hums (applies only to the kind of transformer hum that doesn't change with volume) this attenuator will silence your whole amp since it will lower its decibel many times and also the hum level. Also note it has no bypass switch (maybe fortunate in case you accidentally switch it ;-) and also on its full volume it attenuates quite a lot. A plus is that it is partly reactive since it has a passive fan that takes power and at the same time cools the unit - however this fan only works for very high wattage. The only negative for me was that I didn't find it so good looking but otherwise very good product.
