I bought this because as a beginner I am well aware that it not always sounds pretty when I practice. Now I can practice at any time and people around don't get hurt ;-). Also, it is practical with the electric plug that you can plug in to a DAW and start playing ensemble with yourself. But mostly I play it without amplification or headphones. The sound is clear and silent. The violin got some semi-professional adjustments normal for any brand-new string instrument; in this case it had string heights a bit lowered at the neck and also the G string got some care at the bridge. Now it is very nice to play. The built in headphone amp is a bit noisy, it sounds better connected to an external amp using the 6.3 mm line out plug. Odd as it can sound, in my opinion electric violins are perfect for beginners.
