My favourite strings

My first experience with bass guitars started 5 years ago. I immediately realized that my fingers hurt terribly because of the coarse surface of roundwound bass strings and switched to flatwounds. Since then I have built a number of semiacoustic bodies, trying to get that double bass sound that I like. I have also tried a different brands of flatwound strings
but most flats sound thumpy but lifeless, to my ears.
Then I found tapewound strings and I was hooked. They sound warm but also very "organic" and dynamic, with a bit of treble even on the E string. ETB 92?s were my first choice and I don?t think I want to try any other brand, considering the cost of this kind of bass strings.
If you are looking for a natural, woody bass sound to go well with acoustic instruments these are It!

Smooth tone but not so versatile

I wanted to try new strings on my Jazz Bass and these nylon tape wound looked interesting. I wanted to have a smoother sound for a change and they did deliver it, the negative side is they don't really work if you want to play anything else than smooth/fretless parts (Slapping doesn't really fit these ones). I would suggest them only for an acoustic bass and that's how I'm using them now.

Riktigt göttigt ljud måste jag säga. Tryckte in lite skum under strängarna på min höfner och ljudet blev som en dröm. Låter ju nääästan lika bra som Maccas bas under let it be-inspelningarna. Mullrigt med en riktigt härlig puffig ton (på ett bra sätt alltså). Spelkänslan finns det heller inget att klaga på och de är väldigt skonsamma mot fingrarna! Rekommenderas starkt!

A unique tone

I bought these strings to fit a PJ bass, looking for that smooth and deep thump.

I was surprised to find that they retain a mid rich snap that gives them a very unique tone, although not for everyone's ears. It is not a traditional PBass sound, even when you roll off the tone knob, and they definitely don't work for a J Bass sharp attack. They are also capable of producing a decent slap tone, although (again) not a very common one.

Also, you should keep in mind that they have fairly low tension and will easily produce that aggressive snap against the frets, which may or may not be to your liking.

They are definitely worth the try if you're into trying different tones, but if you're of a more conservative nature I would probably skip them and go for a traditional flatwound.

I believe they may be amazing on a fretless and I'll probably have to buy myself one just so I can try them.

Pros: A different tone if you like that sort of thing, very smooth on the hands and the frets
Cons: A different tone if you DON'T like that sort of thing
