A little taken back by the size of the connector being so large for the mic and given that the input is plated for the better connectivity, then why isn't the other? I assume it has to do with the mic´s design.

Totally worth it.
If you don't travel with your gear but just need to plug it in and let it be there this is totally ok for studio use.
