MacOS volume control not good

The audio quality from these monitors are very good. Especially considering the price. The only negative I can say about the speakers, is that its attenuator only goes down to -6dB. When running them off a Mac, using them as normal speakers, the audio level is way too loud, and it's impossible to adjust down to a reasonable level with the normal audio controls. So I have to use the console, setting
osascript -e "set Volume 0.12", or something thereabout. An attenuator that went all the way to infinity would be really usable.
