When the old ones started flaking, I originally bought third party velour replacements for my m50x thinking that would be more comfortable (less warm), but found that those ear pads change the sound negatively a lot. With velour pads the headphones lost nearly all isolation, resulting in almost no bass, and the highs became uncomfortably sharp. They changed the sound so much I actually thought the headphones themselves had broken during my installation of the pads. After further research, I ordered these original pads - and the sound is now back to the normal balanced sound of the m50x!
I assume the surface will start flaking off on these too in a few years, but this time I know which replacements to buy when that happens!
