I bought this amp, misled to believe that it had anything to do with the t-amp from Sonic Impact, which is a class D amp.
I plugged it in, and boy was I disappointed. The music was lifeless, treble grainy. The midrange sounded like surrounded with mud. Something for a bingo afternoon at the elderly home.
I was ready to send it back, but I didn't keep the boxes, so I let it stay plugged in.
The automatic stand by function was on, and I ran it on lower level input. It was terrible.
Then I decided to switch off the automatic standby, and use the +4 dB setting. I let it stay on all the time. Played music in day time and with a yellow noise during the night.
I have spent a week now listening through a pair of $ 10'000 Marten loudspeakers and slowly heard the sound improve. The treble is not grainy anymore, no feeling of switching distortion, and the middle has cleared up. It is still a little lame in the upper middle, but a preamplifier with EQ or a mixing console could take care of that.
I have listened to everything from Earth Wind and Fire to Symphony recordings, and to my own high res recordings, that I know inside out.
This amp needs to be broken in. From a squeezed presentation of the room , or reverb, it has now grown to fill the room.
Perhaps I will try to replace the input circuit with something better later, after 1000 hours. It may still be improving.
