I bought this unit blindly, turned out to be quite an interesting unit.
But the effect is not subtle at all, which can completely destroy your mix balance. Luckily, I have an M/S unit before with 2 gain knobs and I can easily back off the "S" side before going though the SPL BIG.

I like the width and depth I am now getting.

I have not yet tried on synths and sound design, but I'm sure the effect can be really cool.

Just have to be very cautious on the mixbus. It really needs a gain control before.

In the end I'm keeping it, but it may not suit everyone.

It does what it claims too, but honestly does not make that much of a difference...at least not on the material I have tried it with. Will need to experiment more with it...For the price, you aren't really risking much trying it out...you may have better results than I have so far.

I was concerned about phase issues but summed to mono it sounds exactly like off (unless you engaged the bass which ain't part of the circuit) so zero phase issues here. Gives the tracks an immediate added dimension. price is great and its simple and easy to use. Makes it a winner!

I cannot say nicer things about the SPL BiG. It is the holy grail of stereo image processing. It translates to mono BEAUTIFULLY and without any artifacts, phasing issues or degradation in the audio quality. It creates sonic universes that a plugin will never be able to achieve. A must have if you have a mixing/hybrid studio.

SPL BIG stereo image shaper is a great tool to add flavour and width to your master chain. Using the BIGNESS knob within 1-5 parameters adds the right amount flavour for my taste. BASS switch gives just the right kind of low end boost, it's very pleasing to the ear. Definitely a great piece of gear to add to your 500 series rack
