It holds reeds in place
What more do you need from a ligature? I got the soprano version and was so happy with it I decided to get one for tenor as well, and it's just as good (and affordable).
I've never noticed any audible difference between different materials. I just need something that's easy to attach and holds the reed in place without inhibiting my tone, this product does just that.
