O
That's my first e-kit, and my first drum kit overall. And I'm utterly satisfied.
I only previously played with a cheap Alesis Nitro, and a 15 or 20 years old (supposedly quite good, back then) Yamaha DTX4 (pads were hard silicon !), so I knew it wasn't worth NOT spending a reasonable amount of money. My limited experience told me that cheap e-kits are really not enjoyable, so I went ahead and broke my wallet for a good and always reliable Roland kit... and I'm so impressed.
I honestly didn't expect to be that much satisfied and impressed by the feel of an e-kit. Even the hi-hat (which was the one I feared the most) is excellent and offers a wide dynamic response and realistic feel.
The mesh pads are fantastic, with closed eyes you instantly forget it's "not real". Detune eg a tom pad to a lower tuning realtime with your eyes closed and you'll get the impression that the mesh is being loosen meanwhile! That's quite a mind-blowing experience.
I hesitated with the recent Alesis Strata Core, as it seems like its sounds are better according to online video demos (imo they actually sound like the best in-class atm), but everyone agrees that you can never go wrong with Roland's quality, trigger response and latency. I also didn't really want to have to deal with the iPad-style module of the Alesis (I don't like using touchscreens, and for some reason I'm not confident about their reliability in the long run).
I'm generally not a huge fan of this Roland module's toms sounds, but every instrument is highly tweakable and so I'm pretty confident I'd be able to edit them to my taste quite easily. Otherwise it sounds really really good and it's a real joy not to have to connect to a computer to get realistic acoustic drums.
Anyway, there's so much good things to say about this e-kit but I reached my laziness limit.

Super E-Drum

Upgrade from Roland TD17kvx2
Well, I must say that the upgrade is great. I am a drum teacher and this is mostly for my students - my old td17 should go for retirement after almost 5y of daily workouts. Snare drum in this kit is really responsive, much better than my old one. Also the die cast hoop is giving me much better feeling with rimshots. Toms are little smaller, but also much more responsive and nicer to play due to lack of the white plastic ring. Also the ride cymbal is working much better thanks to new module V31 - ride cymbal is now equipped with position sensing and it really does work! Snare is not that impressive (positioning IS working but nothing special). Overall - very good decision, highly recommend.
