Recording King Tricone 991

I love this guitar when it arrived was finished to high standard no cone buzz and extremly well set up. one thing i did was change the strings to Elixir resonator strings made a huge difference to the volume which was already LOUD but the coating on these strings lets the slide glide creating less friction and string buzz. If I could change one thing i would like to see a magnetic pick up fitted as i will need some poer for gigging. I bought on line a Lace ultra slim resonator pick up this just made it sing. anay faults well its heavy i find it easier to play when standing as its bottom heavy like all metal resonators and has a tendency to slip back. I just love this guitar its a serious peice of kit and art.

My Best Resonator...
Anonym 19.07.2016
...also my only resonator :-) If a National is too much or a little excessive for your needs as it would have been for me then this is an excellent cost effective alternative that I found highly playable and with a great sound.

Nice action, a little too low maybe but allows combination of slide and fretting. So personally I like it as is and probably won't be changing that. A little wider at the nut than I am used to from a more normal acoustic guitar but I like it in this style of guitar.

The sound is personal preference but to me I found this great, especially with a glass slide gives a more relaxed, laid back sound to my ears but also sounded nice, bright, sharp with brass slide.

As can probably tell, I would recommend this instrument to anyone considering a resonator guitar. Probably as with all these types of guitar it marks just as soon as you look at it! So you will want to keep a nice cloth handy if want it keeping its good looks, and it does look very good!

Fab guitar

I've had my Resonator for about 18 months now so I've got a pretty good feel for it. It's a wonderful instrument although by no means simple to play. Action out of the box is high and the strings originally supplied are heavy so initially it's a bit intimidating. The neck is strong but substantial once again making this guitar a little more challenging than a simple acoustic but once you get a feel it's simply amazing.
I find it's more satisfying to play in alternative tunings and it feels great with a nice heavy slide. Its extraordinarily loud !
You pay for the volume with a lack of sustain especially in mid range but I've found this adds to the character of the guitar.
And quite honestly I've never owned an instrument that makes people go "wow, that's gorgeous" so often. Shes an utter beauty!

Much better than the other cheaper Chinese versions. Nearest thing to the nationals at a fraction of the price. Great tone and sustain. I have one in open b and one in open d and use a heavy brass slide and they both sound great. The only thing I have dance is to change the strings for new tone heavy gauge and that's all it needed. Great sounding guitars
