A Brilliant First Recorder for Young Children
I am genuinely impressed by the Nuvo Recorder+. I can compare it with my Yamaha YRS-24B, and as a teaching tool for young children, the Nuvo is absolutely fantastic.
It feels robust and stable, and it is definitely a real instrument rather than a toy. It responds very well even when my three-year-old plays it. The key system allows him to produce clear notes without having to cover every hole perfectly, which means he enjoys playing because it actually sounds good. The keys do not require much pressure either, making them easy for small fingers to operate.
It is also much kinder to a parent’s ears, as the recorder does not constantly squeak and shriek simply because the child cannot seal the holes properly.
I particularly want to highlight the small hand-position guide that teaches the child to keep the left hand at the top and the right hand at the bottom. It is a simple but ingenious piece of design. The large thumb key on the underside is equally clever: the child can press almost anywhere on it, and it will still close properly.
I would even recommend it to an adult beginner. It makes the early stages more enjoyable because you can produce the correct notes without struggling with perfect finger placement from the very beginning.
To my ears, it even produces a better sound than my Yamaha soprano recorder. Overall, this is a remarkably well-designed educational instrument, and I am extremely impressed with it.
