ESI Juli@ eX

New Juli@ Ex sound card has a significant defect that doesn't correspond to professional-grade equipment. I purchased the Juli@ Ex sound card from Thomann twice. Both times, I had to return the product due to the same defect. The output circuits contain a harmful, generated tone signal, the frequency of which changes when switching the sampling rate. It is present in both balanced and unbalanced modes. When monitoring is enabled, the level of this harmful signal increases. This signal is an aliasing of the frequency of the sound card's internal oscillator. This is a fundamental and unacceptable defect of the sound card. Requests to technical support regarding this matter remained unanswered.
Secondly, after changing the sampling rate in manual mode, the master output volume is reset to maximum, regardless of the volume control setting.
Thirdly, the analog inputs of the new Juli@ Ex sound card are 3 dB noisier than the inputs of the old Juli@ PCI sound card.
It would seem that upgrading to a more advanced ADC and DAC would have significantly improved sound quality compared to the old Juli@ PCI sound card, but alas, this didn't happen; it only got worse. The sound card Juli@ Ex has degraded, both in its component base and in the design of the circuit board. Even the packaging have deteriorated significantly. Overall, the new Juli@ Ex sound card is a complete disappointment and a disaster compared to the old, super-high-quality Juli@ PCI sound card of its time.

2014 besaß ich bereits die PCI-Variante der Juli@ (- sie wird "Julia" ausgesprochen -), doch 2017 musste ich sie schweren Herzens opfern - nur ein freier PCI-Slot, und die RME HDSP9652 zog ein.

Die Juli@ klingt verdammt nah an der RME: minimal weniger Tiefbass, dafür luftiger in den Höhen - ansonsten fast identisch. Qualitativ steht sie der RME in nichts nach, und für Musikwiedergabe spielt sie auf absolutem Top-Niveau.

Selbst für Musikproduktion ist sie gut bis sehr gut geeignet - wirklich kein Spielzeug, sondern durchaus Pro-Werkzeug.

Heute? Beide im System.

Dank PCI-zu-PCIe-Adapter (läuft 100 % reibungslos) und einem vollgeknallten Tower habe ich nun Luxus pur:

RME = Studio-Referenz, Präzision, Mix-Check (im Zusammenspiel mit dem Beyerdynamic DT-1990 Pro)

Juli@ = HiFi-Genuss, Seele, Winamp-Liebe zum Musikhören

Ich wollte sie einfach wiederhaben - weil sie Spaß macht, weil sie lebt, weil sie <3 ist.

Fazit: Wer nur EINE Karte will, nimmt RME. Wer beides kann - holt sich die Juli@ dazu - zumal die Juli@ sicher leichter zu bekommen ist für den Preis. Ein Traum-Team. Ein HiFi-Märchen. Ein Muss für Klangverliebte. Wirklich.

PS: Ich habe die Soundkarte mit 6,3mm-Kabel (2 x
Cordial CCFI 3 PP) an das "Behringer Control2USB" verbunden, weil das Behringer ein tolles Gerät zum Verbinden mehrerer Ein- und Ausgänge (Stereoanlage, Aktivlautsprecher, Kopfhörer) ist. Lautsprecher für "Hifi": Klipsch "RP-600M II" und für Musikproduktion: Kopfhörer bzw. "PreSonus Eris E5 XT".
