Behringer DeepMind 12

I honestly didn’t expect the DeepMind 12 to become one of those synths. You know… the kind you just turn on “for five minutes” and suddenly two hours have disappeared into pads, basses, strange soundscapes and old-school synth nostalgia.

What surprised me the most is how alive it feels. There’s something about the DCOs combined with the effects section that makes the synth sound much bigger and more expensive than it actually is. The chorus alone can turn a simple patch into pure 80s heaven. Add a bit of reverb and delay, and suddenly you’re standing in some imaginary 1987 studio wearing sunglasses indoors for absolutely no reason.

The modulation possibilities are also fantastic. You can go from warm vintage pads to completely experimental madness without feeling lost in menus. That’s rare nowadays. A lot of modern synths feel like operating a spreadsheet with oscillators attached. The DeepMind actually feels like an instrument.

The keyboard feels good, the interface is surprisingly approachable, and despite all the criticism Behringer sometimes gets online, this synth has genuinely inspired me creatively. And inspiration is honestly the most important thing a piece of gear can give you.

I especially love using it together with older gear and hardware setups. It blends beautifully with vintage synths while still bringing modern flexibility and stability. It has that “sit down and play” quality that keeps you coming back.

Is it perfect? No. But neither were half the legendary synths people worship today. The difference is that the DeepMind 12 gives you character, warmth, flexibility and fun without requiring you to sell a kidney on the vintage market.

For me, the DeepMind 12 is proof that inspiration doesn’t always come from the most expensive gear. Sometimes it comes from a synth that simply makes you want to create music again.

Jag var initialt lite besviken på DeepMind då jag var ute efter det enkla avskalade utan undermenyer och massa presets och effekter. Detta instrument är dock fyllt av presets dränkta med effekter som iofs håller god kvalitet (tc och Klark).

Men så snart jag luskade ut hur man snabbt kunde komma igång och skapa ljud från grunden utan effekter så växte maskinen enormt. Det är visserligen en del menyer för vissa parametrar, fast den är snabbjobbad och låter väldigt bra.

Ett stort minus som många lyfter med DeepMind är fläkten i som låter förvånansvärt högt. Det ska dock gå att justera med en inställning, något jag ännu inte har testat. Man blir lite fundersam kring syftet med en fläkt som låter så mycket som man kan sänka…
Skjutreglagen kan kännas lite plastiga/svajiga men får å andra sidan tankarna att landa på Juno 106 eller liknande då det är en liknande känsla.

Det bör tilläggas att det finns en hel del bra presets av allehanda slag om man föredrar färdiga ljud.

Bra och användarvänlig synth, lite segt mellan USB och editor programmet att få det att funka Ville åt lite analoga ljud trots att jag äger några olika roland Juno samt en prophet 5 och dom är faktiskt riktigt bra, den har riktigt härliga ljud, helt klart värt pengarna.Fläkten var ett störande moment fram tills dess jag hittade att man kunde få den att varva ner lite. Härliga ljud och mycket presets att ladda ner från nätet som gör det hela extra kul. Stör mig lite på att en slidekontroller i skärmen ser ut som en gubbe, det passar inte riktigt. Sedan skulle det inte skadat med ett lite större klaviatur, det tar slut lite väl snabbt. Men overall, stor överraskning hur bra den är, skulle definitivt lägga pengar på den igen.
